Thanks to your incredible support, tonight we have confirmation that the voters of King County want real environmental leadership at the Port of Seattle.
I believe that this is an extraordinary moment in history in which both President Obama and the Pope agree that there is urgency to significantly reduce our impacts on the climate. We cannot afford to look back and ask ourselves, what did I do to make a difference when so much that is so important was at stake?
As you know, the Port of Seattle plays a critical role in the economy of Puget Sound and there is a pressing need for it to use its economic engine to cut carbon emissions.
Our communities, families and environment can no longer afford a business as usual approach to Port operations – from the lack of public engagement, transparency, or sufficient consideration of the environment in their decision-making – and that is why I ran for Port Commissioner.
I am humbled and grateful for the wonderful list of organizational endorsements I have received from the King County Democrats, WA Conservation Voters, The Stranger, and the Progressive Voters Guide.
To individuals like Martha Kongsgaard, Kay Bullitt, Larry Phillips, Maralyn Chase, Mike O’Brien, Mike Lowry, Gerry Pollett, Max Vekich, Nick Licata, Ron Sims, and so many others.
Let us continue to fight for protections of our environment, our working waterfront, and good paying middle-class jobs throughout the Port.
Thank you for your vote, and thank you for your continued support in the General Election on Nov. 4th!
